Pedestrian Bridge: Parents, business community urges speedy completion

Parents, schools and business community in Yola has appealed to Adamawa government and Triacta Construction Company for the speedy completion of pedestrian bridge at Total junction flyover.

The respondents made the appeal in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Yola.

Malam Isa Labaran, Head teacher of Capital Nursery School said that the pedestrian bridge was under construction for more than four months which makes it difficult for to cross the road.

According to him, as the result of that three pupils and a teacher was nock by car in the process of crossing the road.

He added that the Capital school has Nursery/Primary, Junior and senior secondary sections with over 6,000 pupils coming in daily basis.

“We are appealing to the state government to please direct the contractor to complete the pedestrian crossing because three pupils and a teacher have been knockdown by running vehicles,” he appealed.

Alhaji Abubakar Musa, a parent explained that non completion of the project exposed their children to danger and also make the parents late for work.

He said due to the nature of the road they had to make sure their children get to school before they go to their places of work.

Musa calls for immediate completion of the bridge to ensure the safety of people especially the children going to school.

Malam Ibrahim Maina, spokesperson of the business community in the area also appealed for the speedy completion of the bridge.

According to him, since the commencement of the flyover they were losing after paying revenue as customers were not patronizing their business.

He said that the project lead for the closure of Jimeta modern market gate along the road and people are no longer patronizing the market like before.

“We want government to also open small door for customers to have access to the market and their shops.

“I believe this will improve the economy of the state and create employment opportunities for the youth,” he appealed.

When contacted, Mr Mohammed Suleiman, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, urged the residents to be patient as the ministry understand that it is genuine concern.

He assured of putting pressure on the construction company to complete the bridge immediately.

Also, Mr Hassan Ghanem, Project Manager, Triacta Construction Company, handling the project assured for immediate completion of the bridge.

According to him, it was to be completed in December due to some challenges they could not make it.
